STEM Ambassador Training 2019 - Tech Cornwall

In partnership with the STEM Learning network and the CSW group, Software Cornwall are pleased to announce three days of training for the counties STEM ambassadors.

STEM Ambassadors are volunteers from a wide range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related jobs and disciplines across the UK. They offer their time and enthusiasm to help bring STEM subjects to life and demonstrate the value of them in life and careers.

STEM Ambassadors and support from the network have been instrumental in the successful expansion of Software Cornwall’s education outreach activities over the past 18 months. They’ve assisted with our Mission to Mars program, Cornwall Tech Jams and supporting in school activities. In the past academic year, with their help, we have provided:

  • Over 150 work experience activity placements through Mission to Mars
  • Digital careers assemblies for almost 3000 children
  • Coding workshops for over 300 young people
  • Supported university students via mentoring, product development advice and the establishment of computing societies.

To continue this work, we are helping to connect more people with this support network. Over the three days, participants will:

  • Be inducted into the STEM Ambassador program and receive a free DBS check.
  • Find out how to plan and deliver engaging activities in schools and at outreach events.
  • Discover how the People Like Me resource can be used to encourage more young women into STEM careers.
  • Learn about mentoring young adults towards their chosen career.

These sessions are offered completely free and open to either existing ambassadors or those taking part in the induction session. To register your interest, complete this form. A member of the CSW group will be in touch to arrange your onboarding, and details of the rooms will be sent out in the days leading up to the activities.
