Bluefruit Software marks 25 years with MP visit, staff celebrations, and record profitability

Bluefruit Software’s 25th anniversary has been marked in style with a visit from local MP Perran Moon, record-breaking revenues, and a lively staff celebration at its Redruth offices. The milestone highlights both the company’s continued profitability and its commitment to creating opportunities for people in Cornwall’s growing technology sector.

Founded in 2000, by Paul Massey, Bluefruit began life in a spare bedroom in St Agnes. The company’s ethos has always been to put people first: a happy, empowered workforce will deliver better results for clients. This people‑centric approach has helped the firm grow steadily, doubling its headcount since 2017 and earning accolades including ‘Best Place to Work’ and ‘Growth Business of the Year’. Last year, Bluefruit was shortlisted for Tech Southwest’s ‘Commitment to Talent Award’.

2025 has been a landmark year for Bluefruit, marked by its highest-ever monthly turnover and significant growth in staff numbers.
Today Bluefruit employs more than 60 software engineers, testers and quality specialists in Redruth, providing embedded‑software solutions to clients in medical technology, aerospace, manufacturing and other regulated sectors. In the last 12 months, the team has expanded by 10 %, and the business has recorded its highest monthly revenue to date, underscoring the continued demand for its expertise.

To mark its anniversary, Bluefruit hosted a celebration at its Redruth offices, with colleagues enjoying food, drinks, cake, an office quiz, games, and a round of VR golf.

The milestone also drew recognition from local leaders. Last month, Perran Moon, MP for Camborne, Redruth, and Hayle, visited Bluefruit and praised the company’s achievements: “Bluefruit Software, based in Redruth, is a shining example of the ambition and expertise driving Cornwall’s technology sector. Their work shows how our region can deliver world-class innovation while creating valuable opportunities for local people. Reaching 25 years in business is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the talent and commitment of their team.”

A notable milestone on the company’s journey has been its transition to employee ownership. In October 2019, a 51 % stake in the business was sold to employees, creating an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). Four colleagues are elected to serve as trustees, giving staff a formal voice in how the company is run. Massey says this move ensures that Bluefruit will always prioritise the culture that made it successful:

“Our future is brighter than ever because each and every member of Bluefruit is
invested in our collective success”

Bluefruit remains deeply rooted in Cornwall. The business has focused on hiring local talent and works with schools, colleges and initiatives like Tech Cornwall (formerly Software Cornwall) to create opportunities for people to work in technology within the county.
As the company looks ahead, Massey emphasises that Bluefruit’s core values remain unchanged. “From day one we believed that empowering people and maintaining a healthy work–life balance would lead to successful projects and satisfied clients,” he says: “That philosophy has carried us through 25 years of growth, and with our employee‑owned structure we’re confident it will carry us through the next 25.”
