The Tango3 team enjoyed a volunteer day travelling around Cornwall to get your local defibrillator ready for use. A total of 47 defibrillators were checked, cleaned and maintained over the course of the day. Thanks to the tour, the network of over 250 cabinets in the county is primed for deployment. You only get one chance to save a life. It’s important to be Defib Ready.
The goal of Defib Ready, the first stand-alone product from Tango3, is to ensure that every defibrillator is refreshed within hours of use. Research shows that using a defibrillator within 3–5 minutes of collapse can boost survival rates for victims of cardiac arrest to 50–70%. For every minute’s delay in deployment, the odds of survival are reduced by about 10%.
Weaving through the B-roads of Cornwall, the team checked one defibrillator from their list after another. Thankfully, the icy roads had defrosted enough by the start of the tour and the journey was a pleasurable one, albeit cold. Especially for those of us on a motorbike. With more than 350 miles covered by lunchtime, the team convened at Victoria services. The reward for a successful mission. . . a Cornish Pasty and the contentment that comes with knowing you might have just helped save a life.

The network of defibrillators checked this week is supported day-to-day by a community of volunteer guardians. The cabinets are monitored using custom-built hardware to log guardian checks and deployments in real-time. This, in conjunction with our guardian app, makes regular safety and readiness inspections a straightforward and auditable process.
Defib Ready is the first stand-alone product that Tango3 is bringing to market. It’s a solution for both businesses and communities of AED guardians to adopt in order to help with managing and maintaining public access defibrillators. With an estimated 250,000 defibrillators installed across the UK, and guardian checks needed once a week, there are 5.2 million opportunities to make a defib ready each year.
