I started my career in the diplomatic corps, working on international political, economic and security issues. I then moved into consulting, initially focused on training for government agencies then specialising in working with large international technology firms to improve their competitive strategies around AI, big data, cloud and cyber security products. I also led many cross-border due diligence projects and investigations, assisting clients make key decisions regarding issues such as new acquisitions, alliances, and key senior hires, and to deal with complex disputes.

As the world went increasingly online and the cyber security threat worsened in the mid-2010s, I began to see this as one of the defining issues of our time. Large corporations like those I was working with at the time could spend millions of pounds to buy their way to security, but small organisations, individuals and families were largely left to fend for themselves. I therefore devoted my time increasingly to understanding how small organisations could best defend themselves without having access to large budgets. At first, I applied these lessons to my own consulting firm, leading a successful multi-year transformation to meet the increasing threat level. In 2022, I established Keosetech (www.keosetech.com) in order to help other small organisations, as well as individuals and families, effectively guard against cyber crime, digitally-enabled fraud, and threats to their privacy.

A key trend over recent years has been the merging of threats that used to be distinct. Fraud is now primarily 'cyber enabled'. Cyber crime has merged with real-world crime. Criminals use digital tracking to monitor targets' movements & plan attacks such as assaults or robberies. Real-world theft of mobile devices is used to gain access to email and bank accounts. Most citizens will now have had their data leaked numerous times, which is used by criminals to steal identities & commit fraud, & to dox & harass victims. Meanwhile, big tech continues to push software & cloud services that are often grossly insecure.
