Mission to Mars: ByteSize - Tech Cornwall

Mission to Mars: Bytesize is set to speed up Software Cornwall’s Mission to Mars program this summer.

Over two days, teams of budding software engineers age will be challenged to prepare our Rover Robots for life on Martian soil. Using the starter files created as part of the recent professional’s mission, participants will get hands-on with the robots whilst they code solutions to our maneuverability tests. We’ll be using:

  • C++
  • Arduino Mini
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Agile Project Management
  • Git version control

These sessions are suitable for anyone aged 14 to 24 who wants to explore a career in the broader software industry. If you want to work in games creation, app development, robotics or artificial intelligence, this is the perfect session for you. Our friendly team of mentors will help coach participants through the challenges, supported by the counties burgeoning tech community.

Mission to Mars is a work experience activity which has been hosted in recent years by Software Cornwall. Supported by a team of professional software developers, the activity provides a glimpse into the life of a software development team. Using an Agile development lifecycle, teams complete a set of incrementally difficult user stories to build up the capabilities of the Ada and Alan, the Mars rover Robots.

The Missions play a central part of Software Cornwall’s support of the next generation of tech pioneers. By nurturing local talent and building professional development experience through extracurricular activities, we’re supporting them and the counties digital industries. Our aim is to help young adults establish a successful career that will open doors in the Cornwall as well as the Galaxy beyond.

Participants can sign up for the current two-day missions by visiting the links below. Complete the appropriate form below and you’ll be notified by email if successful within a few weeks. More dates will be announced soon.
