Brighten an astronauts day by sending them personalised message at our October and November Tech Jams!

Mission Zero

Come along to the October and November tech jams and brighten up the daily routine of the astronauts on the International Space Station.

You’ll write code to show astronauts your message and the ambient air temperature on board using the Astro Pi computer’s Sense HAT.

Your completed program will be run in space on the International Space Station (ISS) for 30 seconds during December and January and you’ll receive a certificate recording when this happens!

 

Astro Pi is an annual science and coding competition where student-written code is run on the International Space Station!

From students are invited to send their coded messages to astronauts on ISS, Cornwall Tech Jams will be helping studentst in Cornwall to undertake the mission.

Cornwall’s Tech Jams are run by volunteers working in IT and education throughout Cornwall, in association with Software Cornwall, local businesses and Bodmin College.

We aim to run the Jams from 10am to 1pm. Just pop in when you can.

The Jams are for anyone who’s interested in computing and technology. We will be on hand to guide you in your first steps in programming and offer advice if you need it. All ages are welcome to attend, from beginners to experts, to ask any questions or learn about programming and how to interface computers to the physical world. Entry is free but children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

We have a number of Raspberry Pi computers enabling you to experiment with and learn how to:

  • Program in Minecraft
  • Control traffic lights with Python and Scratch
  • Compose music with Sonic Pi
  • Use the Raspberry Pi camera to take pictures and record video
  • Program robots
  • And more …

We’re more than happy to help with any questions you might have or support that you require. From advice on how to get started through to problems you are having with your programs, hardware or computer.

We’d also love to see projects that you are working on, so please bring them along and let us see what you’ve been up to.

The location of the Tech Jam is in the new Bodmin Chy Trevail Council Building off Dunmere Road.

The following Tech Jam will be held at Cornwall College Pool, in the main entrance of Trelawney Building on the 9th of November 2017.
