Astrophysics & Nuclear Medicine Careers Showcase & “Ask Me Anything”

Thursday 22 07 2021 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Institute of Physics – A Physics Careers & “Ask Me Anything” Discussion

We’re very luck to have two special guests, Dr Claire Davies and Chloe Trevail, who will be showcasing their physics careers and encouraging you to ask them about their journey, their work, and in fact anything you’ve wanted to know about a career in science.

A particular focus will be to encourage more young people from all kinds of backgrounds into science. If you have any questions or concerns about STEMM careers, this is a great opportunity to talk directly to leading physicists who can share their experience and provide expert advice.

School students and parents/carers are very welcome!

Dr Claire Davies (Astrophysics)

Dr Claire Davies is a researcher in the Astrophysics Group of the University of Exeter. Her work involves conducting astronomical observations using world-leading telescope facilities and developing software to analyse and understand the data obtained. Claire’s research focusses on how stars (like the Sun) and planets (like those in the Solar System) form and evolve.

Claire is an advocate for greater diversity and inclusion within STEMM subjects. In particular, Claire runs the regional network, ‘PRISM Exeter’ ( prismexeter.com ), for LGBTQ+ STEMM professionals and students, and is a steering group member for the nation-wide ‘LGBTQ+ STEMM’ group ( lgbtstem.wordpress.com ).

Chloe Trevail (Medical Physics)

Chloe Trevail is a medical physicist at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, specialising in nuclear medicine and clinical imaging. She supports the safe use of radioactive materials and X-rays in medical application.

The main focus of her work is staff and patient safety, safe disposal of radioactive waste, and compliance with laws relation to ionising radiation.
