ESAM set to create new jobs in Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering
Call for businesses to locate to inspirational, purpose-built space in Cornwall
In November last year, the Prime Minister announced the new Industrial Strategy, detailing how the UK government will invest in research, development and innovation within key sectors. Cornwall has a major role in the successful delivery of the Industrial Strategy including the provision of new infrastructure needed to support RD&I led growth.
To the north of St Austell, over the next five years, up to 75 new jobs could be created in Cornwall’s advanced manufacturing and engineering sectors following the construction of ESAM – the Enterprise Space for Advanced Manufacturing – the £8.9 million flagship development on the Carluddon Technology Park, a reclaimed brownfield site located just off the A391, close to the Eden Project.

The two storey ESAM building, designed to BREEAM “Excellent” standard, comprises a total of 32 business units. Up to 2400m2 of flexible workspace is available, capable of being let as individual or combinations of multiple units, tailored to suit the needs of both embryonic businesses and established firms. The accommodation includes 5 industrial units, 3 office units and 24 smaller office/workshops.
The Carluddon Technology Park project is funded by a £6.2 million ERDF investment, matched by £2.7 million of public sector funding from Cornwall Council. The ESAM development will provide businesses with access to bespoke on-site business support services, centre management facilities and dedicated Superfast fibre broadband connectivity to all units
ESAM is due for completion in Summer 2018, and the team behind the project is now calling on businesses who believe they would benefit from the type of productive and collaborative modern workspace that ESAM will provide to come forward.

The Carluddon Technology Park and ESAM land, formerly owned by Imerys, housed settlement tanks for the china clay industry. The new development will form part of the proposed ‘West Carclaze garden village’, a major new mixed use community comprising up to 1,500 new homes, shops, education, health, community facilities and other public amenities. The site is set to benefit from the recently announced £85 million investment in the construction of a new road link between St Austell and the A30, for which funding was confirmed in the Chancellor’s November 2017 Budget Statement.

The project is receiving up to £6,237,825.00 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020.
