Cornwall’s growing tech community has been featured in the 2016 Tech Nation report produced by the Government funded programme Tech City and Nesta.
Cornwalls Capital and surrounding areas gained the attention of the Tech Nation Team following the high response to its survey run in late 2015.
Featured as an emerging cluster it ranks 2nd for growth in the UK with 153% Growth in Digital Turnover, exceeding Londons 101% (2010-2014)
Additional statistics reported include a +127% GVA (2010-2014), £31 million Digital GVA and a digital density of 17%.
“A rural location has traditionally been seen as a weakness. Cornwall is dissolving that urban myth, driven by superfast connectivity, a pipeline for delivering tech skills and a strong collaborative community.” Belinda Waldock
The report features local businesses Headforwards, Crowdfunder, Sullivan Cuff, Agile on the Beach and Bluefruit as well as Truro Penwith and Cornwall College.
It paints an attractive picture for the area highlighting Cornwalls Superfast connectivity and strong community, as well as our strong heritage of being leaders of engineering revolutions!
One of Software Cornwalls key objectives as a network is to help improve the visibility and awareness of our cluster nationally so we are delighted to have been able to co-ordinate and organise the Tech Nation feature with the help of the community.
Thank you all for your contributions and support of Software Cornwall in making this possible! We will be sharing the report to help highlight and raise awareness of our sector both here in Cornwall and more widely.
