Microtest wins contract to supply GP IT systems across NHSScotland - Tech Cornwall

Microtest has won a new framework contract to supply GP IT systems as a Managed Service to GP practices across NHSScotland.

The contract award was made on 1st February 2019, following a robust and rigorous procurement process, managed by NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and overseen by the national GP IT Re-Provisioning Project Board.

Microtest is one of three national suppliers to have been awarded the contract. They will now develop their systems to meet the specific requirements of Scottish GPs in order to become accredited systems that are approved for use in Scotland.

Colin Sinclair, Chief Executive, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) said:

“The new GP IT Managed Services Framework will offer significant benefits related to the reform of primary care across NHSScotland and the services delivered to patients. It will provide modern, secure GP IT systems which will support the evolving models of care in Scotland.

“The successful suppliers demonstrated a strong commitment and ability to meet core GP IT clinical / technical requirements and the wider Primary Care agenda, as well as further integration with NHSScotland’s wider digital infrastructure and strategic requirements.”

The framework Contract will be valid for five years and all contracts called off from the framework during that time will then be valid for seven years, with options to extend up to a maximum of 10 years.

Chris Netherton, Managing Director of Microtest, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this framework contract. We look forward to helping GP surgeries in Scotland use the latest IT technology to streamline systems and deliver outstanding patient care. Our clinical system Open Evolution is currently undergoing a transformation which we believe will make it the most future-proof clinical system available in the UK.”

Microtest employs 100 people at its base in Bodmin, Cornwall and its software development centre at Plymouth Science Park. The company currently supplies clinical IT systems to GP practices in England and the Channel Islands.

This award by NHSScotland follows Microtest’s recent award of a contract to supply GP surgeries across NHS Wales. 139 practices in Wales will be migrating to Microtest’s Open Evolution over the course of 2019.

Chris Netherton adds: “NHSScotland has an inspirational forward-looking vision for a healthcare system which delivers seamless patient care across primary, community and social care, enabled by the very latest technology. We share their exciting vison for the future of healthcare and are pleased to have the opportunity to work with NHSScotland to make it a reality.”
